I took my wife to see Elizabeth: The Golden Age last weekend and was disappointed. The overhead boom microphone was clearly visible in about one third of the film. We would be sitting there enjoying the film’s beautiful scenes, the camera would shift and the microphone would be visible. The first time this happened I thought, OK somebody is going to be in trouble, but then it happened again and again and again…. There were times when you could see the whole microphone which is shaped like a pill capsule.
I don’t know if they ran out of money or what the cause was, but it was very weird.
If you are willing to try and block the microphone out of your mind, then give the movie a try. Otherwise, I would wait for the DVD, which may have the microphone removed.
